Mary Loomis

English Language Arts Teacher & Tutor

​Mary Loomis is an engaging, and student-centered IB English Language Arts teacher with six years of experience working with students in grades 6-12. Mary earned her B.S. in Environmental Studies at the University of Vermont, where she focused her coursework on environmental literature and writing. After graduating, she went on to earn her License in Teaching ELA

(7-12) in Colorado where she taught for three years, and later to southern Spain where she taught for another three years while earning her CELTA (Certificate in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages) from the University of Cambridge.

Recognizing that students sometimes need 1:1 support, whether it be to improve their essay structures or develop confidence in their voice, Mary started Loomis Tutoring in 2022. Since, she has supported 4th graders write children's books, taught homeschooled students in middle and high school, tutored students earning their masters, and developed the writing skills of business owners.

Passionate about inquiry-based learning, and talented in using different teaching strategies to support students in their reading, analysis and writing goals, Mary encourages students to approach literature, language, and the world with curiosity and open-mindedness.
